A roundtrip with a real insight to Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh & Punjab
India’s north is a colorful, diverse and culturally rich treasure. Where Indus river begins to swell, lies our first destination, Ladakh. It inspires not only fans of the Himalayas from all over the world with its rich Tibetan-Buddhist culture and friendly people. Then there is the very heterogeneous Himachal, where we will visit Manali, the Switzerland of India and Dharamsala, exile of Tibetans in India. And at the end, our trip is leading us to Punjab and its capital Amritsar, where the Golden Temple with its own special aura is enchanting visitors and locals likewise.
We designed this trip especially for those who want a versatile journey, where they see a lot of the country, don’t hesitate to meet locals and don’t want to look at the culture just like in museum. You will witness very closely everything that is going on. An experienced travel guide is going to accompany you and show you his country. You will not only visit the classics like Thikse and Alchi monastery, but have the chance to have breakfast at a nunnery and he will invite you to visit several families. You have a lot of time for spontaneous encounters and activities outside a fixed schedule on this trip, because you cannot plan the most beautiful moments ahead of the tour. Create your own memories!
The journey begins in Ladakh. Temple complex Tsemo in Leh
In western Ladakhs we visit old, lesser-known strongholds and will witness the first signs of Tibetan Buddhism. In northern Ladakhs we will meet the friendly people of Nubra and visit several beautiful oasis villages, some nights we are going to spend under centuries-old apricot trees in a deluxe camp.
This tour will lead over five passes with an elevation of more than 5,000 m. The drives can be adventurous, the dirt roads in a bad shape, but the ever-changing landscape will reward you for all the stresses and strains. On the Tibetan High Platau – Changthang – we will visit two crystal blue and turquoise lakes before we dive into fertile Himachal Pradesh. Keylong, Manali and finally the “capital” of Tibetans in exile, Dharamsala, will be other stops on our tour.
We complete our trip with two mega cities: Amritsar and Delhi. Our highlight in Amritsar will of course be the Golden Temple, but our attendance at the Wagah border ceremony at the Pakistani border won’t be any less exciting. Ultimately, we are taking the train to Delhi, the booming metropolis many people dislike because of its noise and sheer magnitude. But it also has its own charm – see for yourself!
Namaste! Julley! Tashi Delek! We would love to accompany you on this trip!

Arrival in Delhi & Leh
In Delhi we will bring you to the other/domestic terminal or you stay at the same terminal and just go to the upper floor. The flight over the Himalayas and the landing in Leh is an adventure in itself and even when you are tired from your long journey, that experience will wake you right up. Your guide is already waiting for you at the airport in Leh and will bring you to your hotel. On the first day you can relax and ONLY relax to better acclimatize to the high altitude. (It is a conscious decision not having planned any activities on the first day, it is crucial for your adaptation to the high altitude!) B,L,-
In the focus: Leh
The first day of sightseeing dedicated to Leh. At first sight Ladakh’s capital seems chaotic and not very charming, but if you look closely you can discover many exciting aspects. You visit the central city monastery – the Gonpa Soma – , the bazar of Leh with its market women selling fresh produce from their gardens and the polo field, where polo was already played long before the British came. After lunch at the hotel there is time to relax, the second part of the program only starts later in the afternoon. A car will take you to Tsemo monastery, then you walk over green pastures along beautiful Ladakhi houses, with laughing children and friendly Leh-pas (Leh’s residents) to the hidden Samkhar monastery. To complete the day you visit Shanti-Stupa, built in the 1980’s, where you have a great view over Leh and the Indus valley. B,L,-
Monasteries, Puja & meditation cave
Even before breakfast we drive to Thikse, where we will see the daily morning puja. Afterwards we will have our breakfast in Thikse. Invigorated again, we drive to Hemis, where we will find a hidden monastery – one of the wealthiest in Ladakh. There will be a lot of time to explore the historic monastery. Then we put on our hiking boots and hike up to the centuries-old meditation cave of Hemis Gotsang, where many wise men were meditating on their quest for enlightenment. (Hiking time: about three to four hours) Late in the afternoon we will bring you back to your already familiar hotel. B,L,-
